Detail overview
Tawa Roti
Tawa Roti is a traditional Indian flatbread made from whole wheat flour (atta) and cooked on a flat, hot griddle called a tawa. Unlike tandoori roti, which is baked in a clay oven, tawa roti is prepared on stovetop cookware, resulting in a soft, pliable, and lightly charred bread.
The dough is kneaded to a smooth consistency, rolled out into thin rounds, and cooked on the tawa until small brown spots appear on both sides. It’s often puffed up by gently pressing or flipping, giving it a light, airy texture.
Tawa Roti has a mild, nutty flavor and a slightly chewy texture, making it an everyday staple in many Indian and Nepali households. It pairs perfectly with a variety of curries, dals, vegetable dishes, or pickles.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve hot with butter or ghee brushed on top for added richness. Tawa Roti is versatile, easy to digest, and an excellent choice for everyday meals.
