The Bagmati Province Government’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law and Cooperatives has urged citizens to remain on high alert as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are expected in various parts of the province from September 22 to 27, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The rainfall could cause rivers and streams to swell, increasing the risks of flash floods, landslides and inundation, while road and air transportation may also be disrupted. People living near rivers and streams, in landslide-prone areas, on steep slopes and in flood-prone locations have been advised to take extra precautions, check weather and road conditions before travelling, and avoid unnecessary long-distance and nighttime travel. Residents have been urged to move to safer locations immediately if signs of danger appear and to coordinate with local authorities and security agencies. They should keep livestock, food, medicines, important documents and other essential items in safe places, while paying special attention to children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women and people with illnesses. Provincial and local authorities, security agencies and volunteers have been instructed to remain prepared for possible evacuations. The public has been advised to regularly follow official weather forecasts and alerts and avoid rumors.
